President Authorizes Dispatching State Militia into Chicago, as Judge Prevents Portland Forces Dispatch.
Over the weekend, the administration confirmed that the Commander-in-Chief has moved to deploy the militia forces to Chicago, even as a US district judge blocked his administration from dispatching personnel to the Oregon city.
Executive Branch Announces Illinois City Forces Move
A spokesperson for the executive branch stated that the president had approved using the state of Illinois guard troops, citing what she described as “ongoing violent riots and civil disorder” that local leaders have failed to control.
Meanwhile in Oregon, US district judge the judicial officer agreed with the state’s assertion that the President sending federal militia members to Portland would potentially worsen rather than settle protests.
“This judgment confirms what Oregonians already know: fairness prevailed, and facts won out,” Oregon’s governor commented following the restraining order was approved. “No rebellion exists in the city. No threat to national security. No fires, no explosives, no fatalities due to social disturbances.”
State Leader Calls Action Needless
The Democratic top official, the state leader described the action unjustified and “a staged event – not a serious effort to protect public safety.”
Judge Blocks Portland Troop Deployment
Donald Trump has faced an obstacle to his plan of deploying forces to cities under Democratic leadership he calls lawless, following a US district judge halted his government's effort to send the armed forces to Portland.
The chief executive had declared on late September that he would send forces to the municipality, “approving Complete Power, if needed”, disregarding requests from city authorities and the the state's federal lawmakers. A coalition of seventeen city leaders in the area had resisted the deployment.
